DocketX builds verified legal AI. Every citation our system produces is checked against 18,123,788 real citations before a lawyer sees it, and citations that cannot be verified are blocked. Our products include DocketRouter, a legal research API that law firms build on, with retrieval over real law, verified citations, an audit trail, and published API docs, and DocketBuster, which helps people who go to court without a lawyer by explaining each step of a hearing along with the rule behind it. We also maintain an open corpus on Hugging Face of 7,149,641 court opinions covering all 50 states, DC, the Supreme Court, and every federal circuit in one uniform format, plus complete state law bundles that combine opinions, statutes, and court rules for California, Florida, New Jersey, North Carolina, and North Dakota, with Wisconsin in progress.

The role

You will spend most of your time on the retrieval and verification systems that DocketRouter exposes to law firms, and on the pipelines that normalize court opinions, statutes, and court rules into a single format. Day to day this means writing and reviewing code, tracing citation checks that fail, improving how documents are indexed and returned, and keeping the audit trail accurate. Because our customers are law firms and in house legal teams, correctness matters more than volume, and you will be expected to explain why a result is right. The team is small, so you will help decide what gets built and then build it, working directly with the people who talk to managing partners, general counsel, and litigation leads.

What you will do

• Build and maintain the retrieval systems that serve real law through the DocketRouter API
• Extend the citation verification pipeline that checks output against our corpus of 18,123,788 real citations and blocks anything unverifiable
• Develop the ingestion and normalization pipelines that keep 7,149,641 court opinions in one uniform format
• Add new state law bundles that combine opinions, statutes, and court rules, including the Wisconsin work in progress
• Support the audit trail and published API documentation that law firms rely on when they build on DocketRouter
• Contribute to DocketBuster, including the logic that pairs each step of a hearing with the rule behind it

What we are looking for

• Several years of professional software engineering experience, including ownership of a production system
• Experience building or operating APIs used by external developers
• Practical experience with search or retrieval over large document collections
• Comfort working with large, messy datasets and writing pipelines that produce consistent output
• Clear written communication and the ability to work independently on a small team, remote during US hours

Compensation

$225,000 base, plus equity.
