About DocketX

DocketX builds verified legal AI. Every citation the system produces is checked against 18,123,788 real citations before a lawyer sees it, and citations that cannot be verified are blocked. Our products include DocketRouter, a legal research API that law firms build on, with retrieval over real law, verified citations, an audit trail, and published API docs, and DocketBuster, which helps people who go to court without a lawyer by explaining each step of a hearing with the rule behind it. We also publish an open corpus on Hugging Face of 7,149,641 court opinions covering all 50 states, DC, the Supreme Court, and every federal circuit in one uniform format, along with complete state law bundles that combine opinions, statutes, and court rules for California, Florida, New Jersey, North Carolina, and North Dakota, with Wisconsin in progress.

The role

You will take on scoped engineering tasks that support our retrieval systems, citation verification, and data pipelines. Day to day, that can mean writing and testing code, working with large volumes of court opinions and statutes, and helping keep our data in one uniform format across jurisdictions. Because the team is small, you will have direct contact with the engineers who own each system and you will see how your work reaches law firms and in house legal teams. You will get regular code review and clear direction on what to build next.

What you will do

• Write, test, and document code for features on DocketRouter and DocketBuster
• Build and maintain data pipelines that process court opinions, statutes, and court rules
• Help extend state law bundles, including the Wisconsin work in progress
• Write checks and tests that confirm citations verify correctly against our reference set
• Contribute to the published API docs and internal notes so other engineers can follow your work
• Participate in code review and in regular check ins with your mentor on the engineering team

What we are looking for

• Currently studying computer science or a related field, or building equivalent experience on your own
• Working knowledge of at least one general purpose programming language, such as Python
• Comfort reading unfamiliar code and asking questions when something is unclear
• Some experience handling structured data, files, or APIs, from coursework or personal projects
• Able to work remotely on US hours and communicate clearly in writing

Compensation

$60 per hour.
